A wedding photograph doesn’t have to look like a traditional wedding photograph.
For me, cinematic wedding photography in Edinburgh is about creating photographs with atmosphere, emotion and intention. My work is shaped by fashion, film and chiaroscuro, while the real moments and connections of the wedding day remain at the heart of everything I photograph.
Inspired by fashion and film
Fashion and cinema have always influenced the way I see photography.
I’m drawn to strong composition, considered styling, dramatic light and the feeling that can be created within a single frame. I bring those influences into a wedding without making the day feel staged or artificial.
I use an editorial approach to make the most of what is already there. The dress, the architecture, the light, the movement and, most importantly, the people.
The result is editorial wedding photography in Edinburgh that feels considered but still completely connected to the atmosphere of the day.
Chiaroscuro, light and shadow
Light is a huge part of my photography.
The contrast between light and shadow, known as chiaroscuro, can create depth, drama and a sense of atmosphere within an image.
Edinburgh provides an incredible backdrop for this approach. Historic architecture, dark interiors, grand rooms and changing Scottish light can all become part of the visual story.
Sometimes the most powerful photograph is created through dramatic light and composition. Sometimes it is a quiet glance between two people when nobody else is paying attention.
Both matter.
More than a wedding photograph
My approach to Edinburgh wedding photography is not about producing hundreds of photographs that simply document what happened.
It is about creating a considered collection that captures how the day felt.
There might be dramatic bridal portraits, intimate moments between a couple, photographs of friends enjoying themselves or something completely unexpected that happens for a few seconds.
I photograph those moments naturally, while the influence of fashion and film helps shape the way they are seen.
